A Bit of History

Stellenbosch is the second oldest European settlement in the Western Cape Province after Cape Town and is situated about 55 kilometers away, along the banks of the Eerste Rivier.

The town was founded in 1679 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon Van Der Stel, who named it after himself — Stellenbosch means “(van der) Stel’s forest”. It is situated on the banks of the Eerste River (”First River”), so named as it was the first new river he reached on an expedition over the Cape Flats, to explore the territory towards what is now known as Stellenbosch.

The town became known as the City of Oaks due to the large number of oak trees that were planted by the founder to grace the streets and homesteads. Fleurbaix Conference and Event Facilities

The Fleurbaix Conference Centre is located in an impeccably renovated 18th Century barn, next to the original manor house on the Fleurbaix estate. This rustic environment: manicured lawns surrounded by old oak trees, a farm dam hosting a wealth of bird life, and vineyards guarded by a panorama of breathtaking mountain sentinels, is the ideal setting for any conference, seminar, meeting or media launch.

With its tranquil atmosphere, it seems miles away from the humdrum of city life, yet lies only 1.5km outside this busy and cosmopolitan student town and is only a short 40-minute drive from Cape Town. The international airport is even closer; only 25km from where we are! The environment is relaxing; it offers no distractions and is perfectly positioned and equipped for all those important training days, executive management or private meetings and special occasions.

Fully air-conditioned conference/function venues, seating up to 50 guests. A wide variety of differently priced menus are available on request.

Audio-visual & technical

Screen, overhead projector, flip chart, whiteboard & pens, TV & VCR are available. All equipment required can be sourced at an extra cost to the client.
